Facilities—prepare your pigs’ home ahead of time

  • Warm, draft-free pen when pigs first arrive
  • Check pen for sharp objects or corners that might scratch your pig
  • Provide a large pen for exercise
  • Make sure they have access to a dry area at all times
  • Make sure you have plenty of bedding: the more plentiful the bedding and the more often it’s changed, the better the pig’s appearance will be
  • Clean and disinfect pen, feeders and watering equipment

Feed: Purchase your feed before getting the pig, not on the way home!
